Senior Research Associate - Bioinformatician

Starting salary from £38,784 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, with an annual increment up to £46,049 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate in Bioinformatics to join the Cancer Genetics team on the Prostate Cancer UK funded project “Identifying patients with aggressive prostate cancer by detecting molecular subtypes in urine”. This project aims to identify known and novel prostate cancer subtypes from the extracellular vesicle fraction of urine and to use them to develop tests for advanced disease and improve our understanding of cancer progression.  You will lead the bioinformatics/data analysis aspects of this project.
 
In this role you will contribute ideas, analyse and interpret data, write up results and present information on research progress and outcomes. You may have the opportunity to contribute to grant applications and be involved in the supervision of researchers and teaching of students within the Norwich Medical School.

You will have a postgraduate level qualification, equivalent qualification in a relevant numeric biological subject or computer science, or equivalent experience in bioinformatics. You will also have experience of independent research, have publications in respected journals or equivalent within a relevant field and be able to work in a proactive and results driven manner in a high paced environment. You will have experience in programming, bioinformatics analyses and/or machine learning techniques and managing a project with large amounts of data. Experience in clinical statistics, data management, and cancer research is advantageous. You will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret data and work effectively as part of a team. Advanced skills directly relating to this research area would be advantageous.   

This full-time post is available from 1 February 2026 on a fixed term basis for 3 years.
