Ref: RA2298

Salary on appointment will be £30,805 per annum (pro rata), with an annual increment up to £37,174 per annum (pro rata).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate join the School of Psychology to work on an ESRC funded project led by Prof. Teodora Gliga aiming to understand early communicative development in hearing and deaf infants.

Compared to deaf infants with deaf parents, many deaf infants born to hearing parents experience reduced access to the main language used by their family and enter school with less developed language. The focus of the project is to understand the role that language exposure has on early conceptual development. We are following-up longitudinally a cohort of hearing and deaf infants, using a variety of methods including eye-tracking, EEG and observational measures. You will be responsible for engaging with community partners and recruiting participants, with data collection from infants and toddlers as well as contribute to data analysis, commensurate with your expertise. You will work in our state-of-the art Developmental labs and as part of a team of post-doctoral and doctoral students and academics.

You will hold a degree in Psychology, Linguistics or an equivalent discipline, and have experience working with developmental populations. You will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills and work effectively as part of a team as well as satisfying all the essential criteria detailed in the person specification for this post.

This part-time (0.65 FTE) post is available from 19 May 2025 on a fixed-term basis for 18 months.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the Child Barred List. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
