About the Role:

Faculty of Arts and Humanities

UEA Deputy Dean of CUCN-UEA Digital Creativity Institute
Ref: ATR/ATS198

Salary on appointment will be from £69,488 to £73,709 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

UEA is delighted to advertise a new role, shaping the strategic direction of its first Joint Education Institute in China. This role is ideally suited to someone inspired by international collaboration opportunities and driven by achieving academic excellence in Transnational Education.

The CUCN-UEA Digital Creativity Institute, a Joint Education Institute (JEI) between the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the Communication University of China, Nanjing (CUCN), has been developed to deliver cutting-edge interdisciplinary arts, media and creative computing degrees suited to the rapidly changing demands of the global creative industries in the age of AI. The Institute was approved by China's Ministry of Education on 31 December 2025.

As the UEA Deputy Dean of the CUCN-UEA JEI, you will champion teaching quality, curriculum design, assessment integrity, and student outcomes. From Board of Examiners oversight to supporting colleagues' career development, you’ll ensure that every academic decision translates into meaningful student success.

A central aspect of the role will be to drive forward Joint Management Committee (JMC) decisions, lead key meetings, and ensure seamless communication between the two institutions. You’ll guide annual planning, regulatory compliance, and Quality Assurance and Enhancement across both institutions, ensuring the JEI meets the highest global standards of education. You will also lead a diverse teaching team, shaping a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

As the successful post holder, you will be an experienced academic leader with a track record of delivering institutional-level impact. You’ll have significant senior management knowledge and leadership capability in Higher Education with measurable impact and proven success in complex decision-making, project leadership, and cross institutional partnerships. You will also have a deep understanding of the Chinese higher education landscape and regulatory frameworks, outstanding communication, relationship‑building, and stakeholder‑influencing skills as well as a comprehensive understanding of leadership and administration within a UK academic context. Experience with JEIs or Joint Education Programmes would be advantageous.

This full-time post is available from 1 November 2026 for a period of five years and will be based in Nanjing, China.

Benefits include:

  • 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and University Customary days.
  • Family and Work-life balance policies including considerable maternity, paternity, shared parental leave and adoption leave.
  • Generous pension scheme with life cover for dependants, plus incapacity cover.
  • Health and Wellbeing: 24/7 access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Personal Development: unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning courses, specialist advice and training from our Organisational Development and Professional Learning Team.

Closing date: 31 August 2026

The University holds an Athena Swan Silver Institutional Award in recognition of our advancement towards gender equality.
