Fire Safety Officer

Salary on appointment will be £31,236 per annum with an annual increment up to £37,694 per annum.
An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Fire Safety Officer to join University Safety Services.
As part of a central team of health and safety professionals, you will play a key role in safeguarding the wellbeing of our staff, students, and visitors across the University’s diverse estate—including academic and administrative buildings, residential accommodation, sports facilities, retail and catering outlets, nursery provision, and digital infrastructure.
Working collaboratively with Estates teams and a wide range of stakeholders, you will support the implementation and ongoing development of the University’s fire safety management system and contribute to the delivery of our fire safety strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering fire safety training for staff and students
- Completing fire risk assessments
- Developing Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs)
- Helping to create safe working and learning environments that fully comply with fire safety legislation
To be successful in this role, you will hold a minimum of five GCSEs at grades A–C (including Mathematics and English) or have equivalent experience. You will also possess a recognised fire safety or health and safety qualification or have completed a relevant accredited course.
Previous experience in a fire safety or health and safety–related role is essential.
This full-time post is available from 1 May 2026 on an indefinite basis.
