About the Role:

Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Norwich Medical School in partnership with NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board

Clinical Professor of Primary Care

Ref: ATR1727

Salary will be in accordance with the applicable clinical academic salary scale for senior appointments, and dependent on skills and experience.

Do you want to shape the future of primary care in the UK—through education, research, clinical leadership, and bold system change?

We are seeking an exceptional and forward-thinking Clinical Professor to lead our expanding primary care research and education portfolio. This jointly funded post offers a unique opportunity to shape regional healthcare delivery and train the next generation of clinical leaders.

In this influential role, you’ll combine clinical practice with academic excellence—delivering innovative teaching, conducting impactful research, and mentoring future talent. As a practising GP, you’ll remain rooted in patient care while helping to redesign services across sectors.

Regional impact is central to this post: connecting primary care organisations, NHS Trusts, academic institutions, local authorities, and community organisations. We're looking for someone who can drive joined-up, inclusive approaches and champion systems that serve communities often left behind.

You will provide strategic leadership across all aspects of primary care research, including academic direction, performance management, operational delivery and compliance.

You will have a proven track record of high-quality research outputs, collaborating effectively with academic, clinical and voluntary and community sector partners.   An interest in the importance of food, diet and nutrition, or in utilising large datasets to maintain health and prevent disease would be particularly welcomed; UEA conducts leading research in this field and you will have the opportunity to partner with the Quadram Institute (established on Norwich Research Park to harness world-class food and health bioscience, and address global challenges to healthy ageing).

This is a part-time (0.4-0.6 FTE) appointment; however, the role is full-time (1.0 FTE) as the post-holder will take up a parallel position as a practising GP with protected time allocated for clinical practice and maintaining professional registration. Options to work in a city/rural/coastal practice will be facilitated.

NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board will work directly with you to support recruitment and integration into clinical service.

This post is partially funded by the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board, and ongoing support is directly linked to this partnership.

This post is available immediately on an indefinite basis.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the Child and Adult Barred Lists. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children or vulnerable adults.

Benefits include:

  • 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and University Customary days,
  • Family and Work-life balance policies including hybrid working and considerable maternity, paternity, shared parental leave and adoption leave.
