A competitive salary is available for an outstanding candidate.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, for an outstanding individual to take a leading role in our vibrant research community. We are seeking a new Director of the Norwich Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) to lead the continued growth and development of the Unit, its staff, and its successful trials portfolio. This permanent position offers the chance to make a significant impact on clinical research both locally and nationally.

The Norwich Clinical Trials Unit has a strong track record in delivering high-quality clinical trials, particularly those involving complex interventions across primary, secondary, and social care settings. The trial portfolio is led by Principal Investigators from a wide range of clinical specialties, both within Norwich and nationally. NCTU provides comprehensive infrastructure to support the planning, design, conduct, and analysis of randomised clinical trials and other robustly designed studies.

Further information about our team and current portfolio can be found at Norwich Clinical Trials Unit.

You will lead the development and expansion of our trial’s portfolio, increasing research output by supporting existing clinical Principal Investigators and research-active colleagues. You will also be key in building new collaborations with staff at the newly constituted Norfolk and Waveney Hospitals Group, our partners in primary and community care services, and—equally importantly—with our Norwich Research Park (NRP) partners, including the Quadram Institute, Earlham Institute, John Innes Centre, and Sainsbury Laboratory.

The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is based within Norwich Medical School. Reporting directly to Professor Kristian Bowles, Dean of the Medical School, and may also report to Professor Philip Baker, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

This post is funded by UEA at 0.5 FTE, with the potential for an increase in time commitment through a joint appointment that includes externally funded clinical responsibilities. The position is available immediately and offered on an indefinite basis.  Applicants are expected to have substantial and current experience in clinical trials (both delivery and management), clinical medicine, and a strong track record in research.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the Child and Adult Barred Lists. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children or vulnerable adults.
