Senior Research Associate

Salary on appointment will be £38,249 per annum, with an annual increment up to £45,413 per annum.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate to join the School of Environmental Sciences to conduct studies on tropical Pacific Climate. You will run a set of targeted climate modelling experiments designed to better understand the past and future behaviour of the tropical Pacific climate, in particular the South Pacific Convergence zone and the eastern Equatorial Pacific region. The post, based in the world-renowned Climatic Research Unit, will involve running and analysing climate model experiments alongside past observations of the region.
You will be working with Profs Manoj Joshi, Adrian Matthews, Tim Osborn in the School of Environmental Sciences, and Prof David Stevens in the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.
You will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion, within 1 month of appointment) or an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of relevant research methods and techniques. You will be able to manipulate complex datasets from climate models and observations, assess physical processes and prepare papers for publication in high quality journals. You will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically.
This NERC-funded post is available from 21 July 2025 until 31 March 2026 on a full-time basis.
