Assistant Laboratory Technician (Teaching) (2 Posts)

Indefinite role, full-time for 36 weeks per annum between mid-September and mid-May
Applications are invited for the post of Assistant Laboratory Technician (Teaching) to assist in the preparation and clearing of undergraduate practical teaching sessions. Working within the busy undergraduate laboratories in the Faculty of Science, the focus of these posts will be supporting the Schools of Biological Sciences and Environmental Sciences. You will help in all activities to necessitate the smooth running of the undergraduate sessions and also provide general help across the Faculty of Science when required.
Key duties of the role include:
- Assembling undergraduate equipment requirements under instruction.
- Specialist washing up of laboratory items following protocols.
- Collection of hazardous waste following protocols, including autoclaving and disposal.
- Preparation of simple solutions including media following established protocols.
- Dispensing, labelling and delivery of reagents and cryogens following agreed protocols.
- Sterilisation of materials, solutions and media.
- Fieldwork including collection of samples and materials for practical classes.
You will have a minimum of 5 GCSE passes (or equivalent qualification) at grade A – C including Mathematics, Science and English and previous experience in a customer focussed / service provision role. Good housekeeping skills will also be essential for this post.
These on-site posts are available on an indefinite basis. You will work 36 weeks a year between mid-September and mid-May, 36.25 hours per week.
