Research Laboratory Technician

Salary on appointment will be £23,581 per annum, with an annual increment up to £25,433 per annum
This technical post supports our busy and diverse research laboratories in the School of Biological Sciences. This role will involve general housekeeping and providing services to underpin the research programmes and undergraduate student projects. This role also provides an essential core service support which has key health and safety duties all of which are associated with legal compliance.
You will undertake a variety of tasks, including maintaining the daily running of the laboratory areas; training staff and students in the operation of specialist equipment; preparing paperwork and packaging samples deemed needed to be transported under the Transport of Dangerous Goods Act and identifying problems, trouble shooting and fault finding. You will be required to display good organisational and IT skills, as well as being able to communicate with people at all levels.
You must possess: a level 2 qualification in Maths, English and Science (preferably Biology) or relevant equivalent experience; an understanding of laboratory safety issues and good laboratory practice; previous experience of working in a multiuser biological research laboratory. This full-time post is available on an indefinite basis and will be campus based.
