Lecturer in Screen Storytelling and Media Production

Salary on appointment will be £48,822 per annum, with an annual increment up to £56,535 per annum.
UEA is seeking to appoint a creative practitioner and academic to lead undergraduate teaching in screen storytelling across film, television, and digital media forms. The role will be based full-time at the new CUCN-UEA Digital Creativity Institute in Nanjing, China.
You will have experience teaching screenwriting and filmmaking, alongside a wider interest in contemporary global approaches to digital storytelling. These may include social media content creation, short-form and vertical dramas, interactive narrative design, storytelling for digital gaming, immersive and extended realities, and AI-generated content (AIGC).
You will be able to demonstrate expertise in the development of stories for screen-based media, from concept generation and narrative development through to scripting and audience engagement. You will be passionate about supporting students to develop their own creative voice and practice, informed by contemporary developments in global screen and digital media industries.
The postholder will initially lead the teaching and delivery of modules forming part of the BFA Film and Television Photography and Production degree within the CUCN-UEA Digital Creativity Institute. Initially, these modules will include:
- Writing for Contemporary Screen Media
- Social Media, Branching Stories, and the Future of Digital Media Storytelling
It is desirable that you may be able to teach across BA Internet and New Media and BFA Film and Television Photography and Production, in modules including Screenwriting, Making Digital Media, Digital Storytelling, Fundamentals of Filmmaking or Advanced Filmmaking.
This full-time role is available from 4 January 2027 for a fixed term period of 3 years and will be based in Nanjing, China.
