UEA has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Technician to assist in the delivery of a collaborative research project 
programme, on 'Completing the genetic toolkit for the control of global Tephritid pests'. You will be based at the UEA, but working collaboratively with researchers at UEA (Tracey Chapman, Phil Leftwich) and Imperial College (Nikolai Windbichler), to develop innovative genetic control strategies to address the increasing challenges posed by insect agricultural pests. The target is Ceratitis capitata, the Mediterranean fruit fly, which significantly impacts agriculture globally and is predicted to arrive in the UK within 2 decades.    
 
Key duties of the role include supporting the Senior Research Associate with the deployment of gene manipulations, gene editing, 'omics technologies and behavioural analyses, to build and evaluate powerful new types of population suppressive gene drives for fruit fly pests. You will also maintain and prepare fly media and molecular biology reagents, and maintain the fruit fly facility.
 
You will have experience with insects or invertebrates and of the use of gene manipulations / editing or omics.
 
This part-time (0.2 FTE/7.25 hours per week) post is available from 2 February 2026 on a fixed term basis for up to 24 months.
