Senior Workshop and Laboratory Technician

Salary on appointment will be £26,707 per annum, with an annual increment up to £30,378 per annum.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Workshop and Laboratory Technician working in the Faculty of Science.
Your role will include efficient operational support to the Engineering department and, in particular Productivity East. You will provide necessary technical support to underpin the delivery of the Productivity East facility under the direction of the Operations Manager.
The LEP funded Productivity East facility contains a range of desktop and industrial 3D printers as well as subtractive manufacturing capability of CNC milling and turning centres with additional simulation capability. Linked to this will be a range of material testing equipment and a number of collaborative robots covering a range of sizes and applications.
The Senior Workshop and Laboratory Technician will join the existing Senior Technician to expand the technical support team, reporting to the Workshop & Laboratory Coordinator. The focus will be on the additive manufacturing facilities (3D printing), supporting the materials testing and robotics facilities.
You will be expected to support the engineering undergraduate workshop and laboratory facilities. Be responsible for supporting practical teaching activities through demonstrations, liaising with academic staff to ensure provision of a high standard of service and will help in all activities to necessitate the smooth running of Productivity East. You will prepare equipment for undergraduate classes, give advice and assistance to students and provide general help across the department and also the Faculty of Science when required.
You will have proven experience of ensuring services and infrastructure are maintained to a high standard and a level 3 qualification in a relevant science or engineering subject or role specific qualification or equivalent experience. Experience of robotics, electronics and micro control systems would be advantageous. Equipment specific training will be provided.
This on-site full-time post is available from 6 October 2025 on an indefinite basis.
