About the Role:

Course Director for Independent Prescribing (Pharmacists) (Part-Time, 0.8 FTE)
Ref: ATS1311

Salary on appointment will be £57,422 per annum (pro rata), with an annual increment up to £66,537 per annum (pro rata).

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology to plan, teach and assess as course director for Independent Prescribing (Pharmacists).

You will be responsible for the educational leadership of the GPhC accredited Independent Prescribing for Pharmacists programme. You will work with the Clinical Academic teams of both the Newly Qualified Pharmacist (NQP) and Newly Qualified Pharmacist with Independent Prescribing (NQP-IP) training programmes, and the major employers and stakeholders, to deliver a comprehensive, challenging training programme to pharmacists working in all sectors or patient-facing practice who are looking to upskill to a prescribing role. You will also take on a portfolio assessment role in common with all team members and teach/advise on the teaching of your own clinical discipline, across pharmacy programmes.

The ideal candidate will be a clinician of broad clinical and operational experience, who is also an active prescriber. You will have experience of working in Higher Education and workplace learning and assessment across a number of healthcare professions and hold postgraduate qualifications in both pharmacy practice (or professional equivalent) and education. You need to be motivated by excellence in pharmacy practice and have a track record of negotiation and influencing to achieve common goals and deliver medium and large-scale projects.

It is an expectation of clinical academic roles that postholders maintain contemporary clinical practice to inform teaching. This post is therefore offered as a maximum of 0.8 FTE to facilitate regular clinical duties.

This part-time (0.8 FTE) post is available from 1 September 2025 on a fixed term basis until 31 October 2026.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Standard level from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Benefits include:
  • 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and University Customary days (pro rata for part-time).
