Senior Research Associate (Fixed term until 31 January 2026)
Ref: RA2278
Starting salary from £37,999 per annum dependent on skills and experience, with an annual increment up to £45,163 per annum.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate to join the research team leading the “Valuing nature’s soundscapes” project (https://valuing-soundscapes.github.io/) at the University of East Anglia (UEA), with specific responsibility for delivering key outputs from the Acoustic Ecology work package.
To date, we have reconstructed and mapped habitat-specific natural soundscapes across the UK by combining long-term bird survey data with individual species’ sound recordings.
You will complete analyses relating the acoustic properties of these soundscapes to local habitat and landscape characteristics to determine key drivers of spatial and temporal dynamics in soundscape complexity, and lead on preparation of the results for publication.
You will also work with collaborators at the University of Surrey (Environmental Psychology) and University of Glasgow (Environmental Economics) to deliver on the project-wide objective of developing tools for measuring, monitoring, and predicting mental health and well-being value based on natural soundscape characteristics.
This project is funded under the NERC-ESRC Economics of Biodiversity programme (https://economicsofbiodiversity.org/) and, as part of the role, you will also join the programme coordination team and contribute to key activities delivering on programme objectives.
