Senior Research Associate in Laser Spectroscopy of Isolated Anions
Ref: RA2273

Salary on appointment will be £37,999 per annum, with an annual increment up to £45,163 per annum.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate to join the School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology to conduct studies on laser spectroscopy of isolated anions in the research group of Assoc. Prof. James Bull at the University of East Anglia.

As a Senior Research Associate you will be associated with a particular project and will contribute ideas and/or enhancement of techniques or methodologies. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to grant applications and may be involved in the supervision of student researchers and teaching of students within the School.

The project will involve continuing development and application of custom tandem ion mobility spectrometry experiments designed to probe the isomerisation and electron detachment dynamics of biochromophore molecules using a variety of laser systems. You will also be involved in the use of ground and excited state computational chemistry methods to help interpret experimental data sets.

You will have a PhD in Chemistry/Physics (or have submitted your thesis and waiting for your viva) or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience in a suitable area. You will also have experience of independent research, have publications in respected journals or equivalent within the field and be able to work in a proactive and results driven manner in a high paced environment. You should have demonstratable experience in at least several of the following areas: class IV laser systems, high-vacuum technology, photoelectron spectroscopy, ion mobility spectrometry, LabVIEW development, analysis and modelling of spectroscopic data sets, instrument design and manufacture. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is experience of presenting and writing-up research results for publication in peer-viewed journals. You should have good attention to detail and be able to meet all the essential criteria set out in the Person Specification.
