Lecturer in Social Work (Fixed-term for 3 years)
Ref: ATS1274

Salary on appointment will be £46,974 per annum, with an annual increment up to £49,794 per annum.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer in Social Work to join our Apprenticeship teaching team in the School of Social Work and work in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council to deliver an exciting new programme. We are due to welcome our first cohort of Cambridgeshire Adult Social Work apprentices to our School in January 2025, and the main focus of the post will be on delivering teaching to apprentices in Cambridgeshire, although it is anticipated that it will also include opportunities to teach on the other BA and MA Social Work programmes offered by the School.

The School of Social Work at UEA is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in social work research and teaching, ranking 4th for overall research quality in Social Work and Social Policy in REF 2021.  It is also home to the highly successful Centre for Research on Children and Families.

At the University of East Anglia, we have an academic career route that focuses on teaching, scholarship and engagement (ATS). The focus of this Lecturer post is on teaching and scholarship. The primary criteria for appointment to this post will therefore be a strong academic record and experience commensurate to a Lecturer in Social Work. We welcome applications from candidates with a range of relevant knowledge and experience but have a preference for a candidate who has an interest in statutory social work with adults or with children and families.

You will need to be available to travel to Huntingdon to deliver teaching. Travel expenses for teaching off campus will be paid, subject to UEA regulations.

This full-time post is available from 1 November 2024 on a fixed-term basis for 3 years.

UEA offers a variety of flexible working options and although this role is advertised on a full-time basis, we encourage applications from individuals who would prefer a flexible working pattern including annualised hours, compressed working hours, part time, job share, term-time only and/or hybrid working. Details of preferred hours should be stated in the personal statement and will be discussed further at interview.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the Child and Vulnerable Adult Barred Lists. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children or vulnerable adults.

We strongly encourage male applicants and welcome applications from all protected groups as defined by the Equality Act 2010. Appointment will be made on merit.

Benefits include:

  • 44 days annual leave inclusive of Bank Holidays and University Customary days.
  • Family and Work-life balance policies including hybrid working and considerable maternity, paternity, shared parental leave and adoption leave.
  • Generous pension scheme with life cover for dependants, plus incapacity cover.
  • Health and Wellbeing: discounted access to Sportspark facilities, relaxation rooms, 320 acres of rolling parkland, wellbeing walks, Wellbeing Ambassador network, medical centre, Occupational Health and a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Campus Facilities: Sportspark, library, nursery, supermarket, post office, bars and catering outlets.
  • Exclusive shopping discounts to help cut the cost of household bills, childcare salary sacrifice scheme, Cycle to Work scheme and public transport discounts.
  • Personal Development: unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning courses, specialist advice and training from our Organisational Development and Professional Learning Team.
