Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence

Salary on appointment will be £58,225 per annum, with an annual increment up to £67,468 per annum. 

The School of Computing Sciences is looking to appoint an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence (AI) on our Academic Teaching and Research (ATR) pathway. This is an opportunity to join a growing team of researchers in Data Science and AI, at the interface of a very active Science Faculty. Experience in research that helps us to expand our collaborations across Science and beyond will be beneficial. In particular, there are exciting opportunities to collaborate with researchers in our multi-disciplinary Health (https://www.uea.ac.uk/health), world-leading Climate themes (https://www.uea.ac.uk/climate), or with the Norwich Research Park (https://www.norwichresearchpark.com/). 

You will be involved in research and innovation, and in the development and delivery of teaching. We are particularly interested in candidates that will be able to contribute to expanding our research and teaching portfolio in AI, with a focus in data science, machine learning, image analysis, natural language processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs) or generative AI. You will contribute to advancing research that translates AI innovations into impact and to developing and delivering innovative interdisciplinary teaching at the interface of computing and AI. 

You will be expected to have a very good recent track record of attracting research funding as a Principal Investigator from government or industry in areas preferably linked to AI, Machine Learning or related domains and have a strong portfolio of recent research publications as corresponding author in prestigious international journals (e.g. IEEE/ACM). It is also desirable that you have an extensive network of national and international collaborators from academia, and industry. 
 
A PhD (or equivalent) in AI or other related subjects with proven experience of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and module development relevant to the subject is essential. This could include core topics such as programming, AI and machine learning, deep learning, data science, database management, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), Deep Learning, Explainable AI, Computer Vision, Knowledge Representation and reasoning, Generative AI for data synthesis and augmentation, Data Engineering, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Secure and Federated Learning or Statistical Learning and uncertainty quantification. 

Experience of course development and the use of a range of both innovative and traditional pedagogical practices is essential. Experience of PhD supervision to completion is also essential. 

This full-time post is available from 16 March 2026 on an indefinite basis.
