Research Fellow in Biodiversity and Hydrology (part-time 0.7FTE)

Salary on appointment will be £48,149 per annum (pro rata), with an annual increment up to £55,755 per annum (pro rata).
The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia is recruiting a Research Fellow to lead the development and application of hydrological and ecological models and datasets to produce and assess future climate-resilient land use intervention (LUI) scenarios that meet UK net zero, biodiversity and food security targets.
In this role you will be responsible for running and developing hydrological models, biodiversity models and carbon storage models, in order to simulate responses to LUI and/or climate change across the UK. You will integrate the findings within the wider OpenLAND integrated modelling framework. OpenLAND (Open Evaluation of Climate-resilient Interventions for Land Management, Soil Health and Net Zero), is a UKRI funded project in which the University of East Anglia is the lead organisation, which is associated with the Land use for net zero, nature & people (LUNZ) hub. The results will be used within the project to assess future land use scenarios for the UK in the context of pathways to net zero.
You will be expected to lead in the development and improvement of the models used. Where appropriate, you will lead the writing of journal papers. This requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work in teams, and a deep knowledge and understanding of both ecology and hydrology, and of the functionality and limitations of the models used to examine the projected impacts of change in land use and climate.
As a Research Fellow you will have a PhD at the time of appointment (or passed viva), and a strong publication record in the field of climate change, hydrology and biodiversity. You will also have significant experience of independent research, extensive programming and software development experience, and be able to work in a proactive and results driven manner.
This part-time (0.7FTE) post is available on a fixed term basis for 23 months until 31 July 2027.
